In our previous blog, we left off in the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic. From there, we headed to an equally breathtaking destination tucked against the edge of the Swiss Alps… Salzburg, Austria.
And not to spoil anything, but it was the most memorable place we have EVER been. (I know we say that about everywhere, but this time I truly mean it. But before we dive into our big announcement, I wanted to share a little more about our story; how Connor and I ended up here, traveling the world together.
OUr Story
It all started back in 2022. Both Connor and I went to Eastern Oregon University. I was studying Kinesiology and playing collegiate softball, while Connor was an ex-EOU soccer star majoring in Business. One cold November night, we both ended up at the local bar. I have to say; Connor caught my eye immediately. I mean, it’s hard not to notice someone wearing shark swim shorts to a bar in winter. By the end of the night, we had exchanged numbers, which then led to dating up until we graduated in June 2023.
After graduation, Connor landed a remote travel job based out of Seattle. We packed up our college houses and made the move. A month later, I was able to join the same company, and we started working and traveling together. We explored every corner of Washington, then moved on to Oregon, and eventually Colorado. Somewhere along the way, we completely fell in love with traveling.
In just one year, we visited seven different states, explored Japan, spent a week at Disneyland, and even danced our way through Lollapalooza. With every new destination, our love for adventure grew stronger. After a year, we both gave notice at work and started planning our next big leap. Southeast Asia.
This was our first true international trip together. We spent just over a week in Bali, then made our way to Singapore. From there, we traveled throughout Thailand- Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai. It was a dream trip. We didn’t want to leave, but the holidays with our families were calling. So, we made a deal: we’d head home, but only if we finally booked our bucket list trip to Europe. And here we are!
All together Connor and I have been together for the last 2 and a half years. In that time we have visited 9 different U.S states and 15 countries……..I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Getting to do all of this with my best friend and now fiancé, is the greatest gift I could ask for.
Yes, that’s right… we’re ENGAGED!

Fast-forward back to Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is known as the setting of The Sound of Music, with rolling hills, castles, and the iconic garden where many scenes of the movie were filmed. After a few magical days in the city, falling in love with its charm we headed up to the hilltop castle, Hohensalzburg. We took in the city views before wandering down to make our way out for dinner (a rare luxury on this budget trip; we’ve mainly ate grocery store sandwiches!).
After dinner we took a stroll into the Mirabell Gardens, the very one from The Sound of Music. And that’s where it happened! Under the stars, with the garden lights glowing and the castle lit in the background, It was perfect. The easiest yes I’ve ever said.
