A year ago, in January 2024, Connor and I packed up and set off to Colorado for our traveling remote jobs. Little did we know that the next three months would turn into one of the most adventurous and memorable chapters of our lives. We didn’t quite cover every square inch of Colorado (that would’ve taken years), but we sure gave it our best shot!
Here’s a recap of where our travels took us: Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Fort Collins, Aurora, Pueblo, Aspen, Arvada, Longmont, Greeley, Littleton, Lakewood, Loveland, Golden, Steamboat, Englewood, Trinidad, Glenwood, Thornton, Commerce City, Rifle, Mead, Black Hawk/Central City, Empire, and Glenwood Springs. Whew! That’s a lot of places to pack into just three and a half months. No wonder it felt like we were constantly on the move!
What We Loved About Colorado

There is no denying that Colorado is beautiful, but the overwhelming highlight was the mountains. The snowy Rocky Mountains were breathtaking. Places like Boulder, Loveland, and Aspen gave us the full “Colorado Winter” experience. We drove by some of the most amazing ski mountains and all we wanted to do was go snowboarding on them (Fun fact: we snagged an awesome snowboard at a thrift shop). Unfortunately, we never found the time to do that— I know I know; that’s like the whole point of going to Colorado. But don’t worry we more than made up for it with our other adventures.

Another favorite was the Denver area. Denver was a refreshingly big city. We loved having the opportunity to do something every night of the week if we wanted to. From sports events and interactive art museums to concerts and nightlife, there was never a dull moment when we were in the city.

But the ultimate highlight? Spending time with my aunt and uncle in Mead. Their property was incredible, complete with its own par-three golf course in their neighborhood! We played as much winter golf as we could. It was also the perfect base for short trips, like popping up to Gering, Nebraska, to visit my grandparents. Connor finally got to meet them, and let’s just say my grandparents’ review of him was glowing. My grandma’s first words after meeting him was, “Oh, he is very handsome, Caitlin!” (Grandma approved… check!)
Things We Didn’t Love
As much as we enjoyed Colorado, there were a couple of things that tested our patience. One of them being the driving…. oh boy. Let’s just say Colorado drivers are assertive. We quickly learned that being cut off, flipped off, and honked at was the norm. The craziest part? In Colorado the red lights are about 4 minutes long each time. So, imagine this, you’re sitting at those long lights and the second it turns green you are being honked at. It was wild! And it happens so often! However, if you can overlook aggressive driving, you’re golden.
Wrapping Up Our Colorado Chapter

From mountain peaks to crazy city streets, winter golf in Mead to amazing trips to Nebraska, we packed so many memories into just three months. While the driving may have been a bit insane, the incredible experiences we had far outweighed the annoyances. If you’ve ever thought about spending an extended time in Colorado, we can confidently say it’s worth it. We’d go back in a heartbeat!
